Orange Scented Bourbon Sour

Orange Scented Bourbon Sour

My take on the classic bourbon sour, this cocktail recipe has all the goodness of the traditional cocktail with the addition of citrus-y notes thanks to an orange peel infusion. Making orange-scented bourbon is as easy as adding a few strips of peel (a part of the fruit that is usually discarded) to the liquor and allowing it to infuse for 2 or 3 days. A light dusting of cinnamon is the perfect garnish to round out the flavours of this drink.

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

Orange Scented Bourbon
250 ml bourbon
5 strips orange peel, removed with a vegetable peeler

Directions

Orange Scented Bourbon

  1. Add bourbon and orange peel to a mason jar, secure the lid and leave to infuse for 2 or 3 days.  There’s no need to refrigerate.
Cocktail
1 ½ oz orange scented bourbon
1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
3 ½ tsp simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water simmered for 2-3 minutes)
1 oz egg white (preferably from a carton to avoid wasting the yolk)
ice
ground cinnamon, for garnish

Cocktail

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, cover, and shake vigorously about 10 times.  Pour into a rocks glass, ice and all, garnish with a light dusting of cinnamon and serve.
